| Other issues of concern |
This year ULC was stripped of our ability to send a mass email to University students once a semester to announce our keynote lecture. This created an unfortunate situation where students were paying required fees for our events, yet were never told about the services they paid for. As such, many students didn’t hear about either of our keynote lectures, and for the first time in several years, both of our keynote lectures did not reach capacity. This was directly due to students not knowing our lectures were occurring.
|
| What should we tell applicants for this committee regarding expectations of members (anticipated workload, existence of subcommittees, etc.)? | Committee members are expected to spend at least four hours a week either researching pitches, planning events, and/or running our lectures. Attendance at weekly meetings is mandatory. Members are expected to be open minded and respectful of other members’ thoughts, and to consider the wants of the at large student population when planning lectures. Workload of subcommittees varies throughout the year and expectations are set by the subcommittee leader. |
| Does your committee have a website? If so, what is the URL? | https://lectures.uiowa.edu/ |
| What is your process for passing on previous agendas and minutes to the new committee chair(s)? | Previous agendas and minutes are archived on a shared Teams. The archive is copied to the new Teams created each year. |
| Recommendations, if any, to the shared governance groups. | Please consider our request to have a semesterly mass email restored to the committee for our keynote event. We appreciate your time and thoughtfulness in doing so. |
